THE DESTRUCTION OF HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI.

While 75% of the population in Japan is under 60 years of age…

While Japan traditions change drasticaly since the end of the World War Two…

While the street interviewed youth has no memory and has the same amount of knowledge of “what happened on the 6th of August of 1945?”…

The first witness portrait comes from Kiyoko Imori. A litle girl who was a few blocks away from the hypocenter of the atomic blast. She was the only surviver from the 620 at her school that day. Why did she survived if everyone else died?

“- Why did you survived when all the other died?

- Why did I survived? (short silence) To tell the others about what happened (and starts crying in hurt).”

This is a documentary from the Academy Award-winning filmaker Steven Okazaki, brings the result of investigations and facts of the bombing and the aftermath of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagazaki. Along side with the 140.000 in Hiroshima and 70.000 in Nagasaki who perished vaporized with the nuclear bombs, were the survivors. And from those the injured. Some 85% of them were civilians. One doctor at the military at that time, started treating the wounded right after the bombings. He still does it today! Sixty years after.

Documentary in Japanese language with English subtitles. Year: 2007. Prizes: Emmy Primetime; nominated as Best Motion Picture Producer of The Year at PGA Awards; nominated for the Grand Juri Prize at Sundance Film Festival. Both nominations in the Documentary category. Film length: 1h26m

A DESTRUIÇÃO DE HIROSHIMA E NAGAZAKI.

Enquanto 75% da população do Japão tem menos de 60 anos…

Enquanto as tradições japonesas mudam drasticamente desde o final da Segunda Grande Guerra…

Enquanto os jovens entravistados na rua não têm memória. E têm o mesmo nível de conhecimento sobre “o que se passou no dia 6 de Agosto de 1945?”…

A primeira testemunha apresentada é Kiyoko Imori. Uma menina que estava a alguns quarteirões do hipocentro da explosão atómica. Ela foi a única sobrevivente de um grupo de 620 que estavam na sua escola naquele dia. Porque é que ela não morreu? Se todos os outros morreram.

“- Porque é que você sobreviveu se todos os outros morreram?

- Porque é que eu sobrevivi? (há um silêncio curto) Para contar aos outros sobre o que se passou (e começa a chorar em dôr).”

Este filme é um documentário de Steven Okazaki, realizador vencedor dos Prémois da Academia de Hollywood, e que nos trás o resultado de investigações e de factos sobre o bombardeamento das duas cidades. E do que se passou depois. Lado a lado com os 140.000 mortos em Hiroshima e 70.000 mortos em Nagazaki – os  que morreram vaporizados pelas bombas nucleares, estavam os sobreviventes. E desses sobreviventes, os feridos – 85% eram civis. Um médico que era na época militar e tinha então 20 anos, começou a tratar dos feridos logo depois dos bombardeamentos. E ainda od trata hoje em dia. Sessenta anos depois.
